A taste of Thailand: Taste of Thai Express specializes in seafood and much more
How many times have you driven north on Meadow Street without stopping at Taste of Thai Express? I do it all the time because, from the shape of the building and the name of the establishment, I jumped to the conclusion that it was either a fast food restaurant or a grab-and-go type establishment.

I was wrong.

Getting on the 'Wagon: Bandwagon Brew Pub offers innovative food and drink
When you go to bed at night, do you toss and turn wondering if there's a downtown pub where you can enjoy a homemade, chocolate peanut butter stout - or maybe even a refreshing raspberry jalapeno ale?

Well, toss no more, because the Bandwagon Brew Pub located at 114 N. Cayuga St. in Ithaca makes and serves about two dozen original recipe beers and ales.

Italian Excellence: Tanino's is well worth the drive to Horseheads
Are you familiar with Hanover Square in Horseheads? I wasn't. But when I did discover it I was surprised to find it dominated by Tanino's, a large sprawling restaurant connected to its own bakery and wine store. Burgers by the Bunch: Five Guys offers casual fare in a noisy setting
I try to visit a restaurant four times before I introduce myself to the owner. This gives me a better chance to determine consistency. After all, the restaurant can have an off day, as can I. I don't believe it's fair to make public pronouncements that can hurt a restaurant's reputation and business based on just a visit or two.

I was feeling particularly pleased that I had adopted this policy when I entered Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 222 Elmira Road in Ithaca for the first time.

Handmade With Care: Joe's Pasta Garage offers 'quasi-Italian' fare
During the early 19th century, the stagecoach made a scheduled overnight stop in Skaneateles as it made its way across New York State. Passengers ate, drank, and slept in the Sherwood Inn while their carriage was looked after in the stone building that is now home to Joe's Pasta Garage.

Built in 1820, that building served for 20 years as a carriage and sleigh construction shop and then became a blacksmith and horseshoe shop. The building's next incarnation was as a boat construction and horseshoe repair shop and then in the 1940's it was converted into a garage into which motorists drove their cars for repairs. Currently the building houses a good-sized kitchen and about 65 seats, mostly in wooden booths, for diners in a quasi-Italian restaurant.
